FUNdamentals MTB101 Progression Sessions

Intro to Mountain Biking

Grasp the Basics with Our Mountain Bike Fundamentals Course

Our FUNdamentals course is designed to help riders of all levels develop their skills in a comfortable and supportive training environment. You'll gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of mountain biking, including balance and traction, body position, gearing and braking, cornering, tackling obstacles, and descending. Our experienced instructors will guide you every step of the way, helping you build confidence and dial in your skills.

What You Will Learn:

  • Basic bike set-up and safety inspection

  • Proper body position and balance

  • Effective gearing and braking techniques

  • Cornering and traction principles for better control

  • Strategies for tackling obstacles and roll downs

  • Descending with speed and control, using proper body position and line choice

Is This Clinic Right For You? Assess Your Riding Level

Technical Skills

  • You are new to mountain biking or have limited experience on the trails.

  • You can ride a bike on gravel trails or wider, low-grade singletrack.

  • You may still be working on shifting, climbing, descending, and cornering.

  • You do not yet feel comfortable navigating roots, rocks, and tight turns without walking.

  • You have a desire to improve your skills and build confidence.

Fitness Level

  • You are comfortable with shorter rides with less elevation gain and lower intensity.

  • You have the endurance to ride for 10-25 minutes of riding at a time.

Confidence Level

  • You may feel nervous or unsure when encountering more challenging trails and features.

  • You are interested in building your confidence and taking your riding to the next level.

Technical Skills

  • You are new to mountain biking or have limited experience on the trails.

Take Your Riding Skills To The Next Level

Ready to take your riding to the next level? Our Technical Riding MTB 201 Progression Sessions are designed to help you build your confidence and skills on the North Shore's more technical trails. You'll learn to ride with control and precision, allowing you to take on more challenging terrain with confidence.

What You Will Learn:

  • Riding smoothly through technical terrain, including rocky and rooty sections

  • Cornering with control and confidence on variable terrain

  • Proper body position for descending, including line choice, speed, and braking techniques

Is This Clinic Right For You? Assess Your Riding Level

Technical Skills

  • ou have already completed our FUNdamentals course and have been riding consistently for at least a year.

  • You are comfortable riding on North Shore blue trails and may have explored some black trails.

  • You can handle technical terrain with some rocks or roots and maintain control while climbing and descending.

  • You want to further develop your skills and build confidence on technical trails

Fitness Level

  • You can handle sustained uphill and downhill sections on blue trails.

  • You have the endurance to ride for 20 to 40 minutes at a time.

Confidence Level

  • You are most comfortable at a slow and controlled pace on technical terrain.

  • You want to improve your ability to ride smoothly through technical terrain and corner with control and confidence.

  • You want to improve your body position, line choice, speed, and braking when descending.

Riding Technical Terrain - Into The Kinda Steep & A Little Deep

Unlock Your Inner Trail Pro: Learn to Ride Tech with Confidence

I'm always Blue, Black if it "flows" but I really want to get better at those rocks n' roots and generally challenging terrain.  If flowing the tech has eluded you then we can show you how to turn jank into flow.  Ready to move beyond Expresso and Lower Digger but not ready for Crippler and Boundary?  This is the clinic for you.  

What You Will Learn:

  • Riding smoothly through technical terrain​

  • technical trail features & roll downs

  • Climbs - traction, line choice, gearing & pedaling

  • Descending - body position, line choice, speed & braking

Is This Clinic Right For You? Assess Your Riding Level

Technical Skills

  • You are comfortable riding through a variety of technical terrain such as rock, uneven roots and moderate-sized bridges.

  • You have a good understanding of proper braking and shifting techniques.

  • You are confident in your descending abilities and can ride variable terrain at a comfortable pace.

Fitness Level

  • You are comfortable with sustained uphill and/or downhill sections.

  • You have the endurance to ride for 45 to 60 minutes at a time.

Confidence Level

  • You still walk some sections on trails that are rated Black.

  • You are interested in improving your skills and conquering more challenging trails and features.

Drop It Like It's Hot Progression Session

Take Your Riding to New Heights: Learn to Drop with Confidence

If you're ready to take your riding to the next level and start getting air, this clinic is for you. Even if you've always been the type to keep both wheels on the ground, our expert instructors will teach you the skills and techniques you need to lift off with confidence. We'll start with beginner drops in a controlled environment, working with you to build your skills and confidence until you're ready to take your new-found abilities to the trails. You'll learn how to approach drops, get both wheels in the air, and land smoothly and safely. With our expert guidance, you'll develop the skills and confidence you need to tackle any drop with ease. Join us and take your riding to new heights!

What You Will Learn:

  • Build the skill and confidence to get both wheels in the air​

  • transfer that skill from a controlled environment to the trails
